About The Position

This position is ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES. The Associate Park Service Worker will operate a wide range of vehicles and field power equipment, assist with tracking projects and documenting work, and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles. Responsibilities include participating in various projects such as inventory, construction, demolition, planting, pruning, and concrete work. The role involves maintaining landscapes and grounds, cleaning and repairing park areas, playgrounds, and facilities, and ensuring adherence to agency rules. Additionally, the position requires supervising assigned personnel, inspecting work, responding to citywide emergencies, and assisting with the maintenance and repair of crew tools and equipment. Accurate record-keeping and supply ordering are also key duties.

Requirements

  • A four-year high school diploma or its education equivalent and 6 months of full-time satisfactory paid experience in gardening, grounds or tree maintenance, or in the building, construction or maintenance trades; OR One year of full-time experience in gardening, grounds or tree maintenance, or in the building, construction or maintenance trades.
  • Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York.
  • Employees must maintain the Class B Commercial Driver License during their employment.
  • Current full-time annually paid Parks employees.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a wide range of vehicles and field power equipment including trucks, trailers, tractors, loaders, mowers, weed whackers, snow blowers, and chain saws.
  • Assist with tracking projects, work orders, and documenting work.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring they operate in proper working condition.
  • Take part in all assigned projects, including inventory, construction, demolition, planting, pruning, and concrete mixing and spreading.
  • Effectively maintain landscape and grounds.
  • Clean and repair park areas, playgrounds, and facilities, ensuring agency rules and regulations are followed.
  • Supervise assigned personnel and closely inspect work assignments to ensure timely completion and adherence to agency specifications.
  • Respond as part of a team to citywide efforts and emergencies, including snowstorms, hurricanes, and tornado damage clean-up.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of an inventory of crew tools, equipment, vehicles, and other motorized equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records, track assignments, and order necessary supplies.
