About The Position

The Blackwood Department of Real Estate in the R. B. Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech seeks an established scholar to hold the Blackwood Endowed Chair. This is a tenured, academic-year appointment beginning August 10, 2027. The successful candidate will join a growing department working to expand its research, teaching, and service capacity and strengthen its international reputation. The candidate will maintain a high-quality research program that regularly produces publications in top-tier academic journals, teach three courses (9 credits) annually in the undergraduate real estate program, and participate in service activities that increase the department’s visibility in academic and professional communities. Instructional effectiveness and flexibility are essential, along with a willingness to engage in experiential learning that prepares undergraduates for entry into the workforce. The role also includes exploring emerging real estate trends, presenting at national and international conferences, participating in timely policy debate, contributing to the professionalization of the real estate industry, and supporting the Pamplin+ initiative’s focus on technology readiness and workforce preparation. The successful candidate is expected to work collegially and collaboratively with faculty and staff. The department serves approximately 400 undergraduate students pursuing B.S. Real Estate degrees. Its curriculum covers real estate development, finance, law, market analysis, operations, and planning, and offers opportunities for double majors or minors in related fields. A $10 million gift from the Blackwood family in 2021 strengthened the department’s endowment and supports faculty scholarly endeavors.
