About The Position

As an Associate Merchant, you will support category management through supplier negotiations, purchase order administration, and item setup for both stores and online channels. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance customer experience, execute promotional features, and maintain accurate product content. You will leverage data analysis to inform category strategies and support financial planning. By fostering strong vendor relationships and ensuring operational excellence, you contribute to delivering value and driving business results aligned with organizational goals and customer needs. The Associate Merchant team plays a vital role in bringing seasonal and special occasions to life by managing supplier relationships and category strategies. This team supports supplier negotiations, purchase order management, and item setup to ensure seamless product availability. They leverage data analysis to inform decisions and collaborate across functions to enhance customer experiences both in stores and online. Focused on operational excellence, the team drives category performance through effective budgeting, forecasting, and promotional planning, all while upholding Walmart’s commitment to integrity and delivering value to customers.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in vendor relationship management and supplier negotiations to support category goals.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data analysis tools for performance tracking and decision-making.
  • Knowledge of category strategy development and execution, including feature planning and modular assortment support.
  • Ability to manage purchase orders and resolve supplier issues efficiently.
  • Effective collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with merchants, planners, and merchandising teams.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity, compliance, and ethical business practices.
  • Proficiency in supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis within assigned categories.
  • Bachelor’s degree OR 2 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area

Responsibilities

  • Support merchants in supplier negotiations and manage purchase orders for assigned categories.
  • Assist with supplier issue resolution and facilitate new supplier setup for stores and online channels.
  • Execute customer communication and education programs, collaborating with modular and site merchandising teams.
  • Monitor and maintain product page content accuracy, ensuring compliance with taxonomy guidelines.
  • Analyze category performance data to support budgeting, forecasting, and sales reporting.
  • Implement approved feature proposals and modular assortment strategies across channels.
  • Leverage data insights to drive category decisions and enhance customer-focused processes.
