About The Position

The Associate Merchant is responsible for merchandising functions for assigned categories, contributing to business objectives, sales and margin goals, merchandising strategy, and analytical support and recommendations for the merchandise team. The role covers the Audio and Batteries categories and works with vendors, evaluates merchandise and pricing, and supports Merchant Assistants.

This is a hybrid role based at BJ’s Club Support Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Team members work in the office Tuesday through Thursday and remotely Monday and Friday. The stated pay range is $69,000 to $91,000.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business or an operations-related field.
• 2–5 years of professional merchandising or retail operations experience.
• Knowledge of vendor negotiation techniques.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with AI tools, including ChatGPT.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on developing sales and margin plans and sales forecasts for assigned categories.
• Manage and control open-to-buy positioning and buy merchandise for assigned categories.
• Participate in direct vendor negotiations on merchandise pricing, quantity, delivery, and terms.
• Identify and implement merchandise packaging and presentation techniques that improve productivity and execution.
• Assess merchandise mix against consumer trends and business needs, develop planograms, and recommend assortments.
• Review advertising and promotion analytics to evaluate performance, refine merchandise plans, and recommend strategy adjustments.
• Implement category pricing strategy and execute exit strategies for slow-selling items.
• Assess pricing using knowledge of the competitive landscape, sales and margin objectives, price indexing, and targets.
• Research the competitive landscape and consumer trends to ensure alignment with strategy.
• Identify merchandising risks and opportunities and present recommendations.
• Provide effective and supportive direction and guidance to Merchant Assistants.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
