About The Position

The Associate Medical Director will support the Medical Directors and Executive Director of US Medical Affairs in strategic planning, tactical execution, and leadership activities for Alexion’s Rare Hematology Therapeutic Area for marketed products and assets in late-stage development for the treatment of rare hematology disorders, specifically Hematopoetic Stemcell Transplantation-associated Thrombotic Microangiopathy (HSCT-TMA or TA-TMA). Activities include but are not limited to content development, advisory boards, publications, congresses, thought leader development and scientific exchange, launch activities, medical education programs and evidence generation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of Industry experience with 2+ years in Medical Affairs preferred
  • Established proficiency to liaise with KOLs and HCPs to innovate and challenge the status quo, while implementing Medical Affairs tools to improve patient care and outcomes
  • Demonstrated proficiency to lead and support successfully cross-functional teams in an evolving competitive landscape
  • Established ability to work with KOLs and HCPs to innovate and challenge the status quo, while implementing Medical Affairs tools to improve patient care and outcomes
  • Proven critical thinking capabilities, analytical skills, proactive approach, and ability to develop effective medical strategy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and strong presentation skills
  • Adaptability and agility in a dynamic environment with proven ability to work effectively on teams as well as independently
  • MD, DO, PhD, PharmD or life-sciences degree with relevant clinical/industry experience is required

Nice To Haves

  • Hematology, Nephrology, internal medicine, transplantation medicine or immunology training, research, or industry background
  • Rare disease experience, but not required
  • Product launch and lifecycle management experience
  • Knowledge of clinical development process and US regulatory landscape

Responsibilities

  • Working with US Medical Directors, as well as with members of the cross-functional US Rare Hematology & Nephrology Team, to plan and execute the annual US Medical Strategic and Tactical Plan focusing on HSCT-TMA.
  • Managing development of content and resources for scientific exchange, medical education programs, training, and congress activities aligned to US Medical strategy
  • Supporting Medical Advisory Boards and insight generation activities to inform ongoing strategic and tactical needs in evolving treatment landscape
  • Assisting US publication activities to support US strategy, in alignment with Global
  • Managing congress strategy and execution for assigned rare hematologic disorders
  • Assisting with evidence generation activities such as company-sponsored, investigator-initiated studies, and scientific collaborations
  • Partnering with internal cross-functional stakeholders - clinical development, commercial, marketing, HEOR, external scientific engagement and patient advocacy in the US and global.
  • Strengthen external stakeholder engagement by building and maintaining KOL relationships.
  • Demonstrating effective team communication and collaboration, documentation of Medical Affairs activities through appropriate reporting systems, execution through appropriate processes, and budget and vendor management
