About The Position

This individual will support the engineering team on Aligned’s technical topics and matters and will work directly with the internal and external design teams to ensure technical compliance. As a technical contributor, this individual will play a crucial role in a wide variety of responsibilities ranging from early-stage design direction, to validating installed conditions, to yearly site assessments, and evaluating next level technologies. Working cross functionally, this individual will raise Aligned’s technical capabilities and enhance performance across multiple work streams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in data center or mission critical electrical and mechanical design, construction, and operations
  • EIT certification or FE test plan required
  • AutoCAD or Revit experience
  • Experience with interpreting construction drawings and equipment specifications
  • Ability to understand construction project scopes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience troubleshooting technical problems during startup and commissioning
  • Background in performing and analyzing buildings using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license eligible

Responsibilities

  • Co-author, maintain, and update mechanical technical standards.
  • Execute graphical updates to technical standards documentation using Autodesk Revit.
  • Co-review engineering drawings against technical standards at every phase of design to catch discrepancies early.
  • Support the engineer of record by communicating equipment data, cross-project lessons learned, and Aligned’s design preferences.
  • Assist content preparation and presentation material to achieve business approvals.
  • Support conceptual/directional design decisions at inception.
  • Review and support for major HVAC equipment product performance and operations.
  • Review and support for commissioning scripts and activities.
  • Review and support for critical MOP’s.
  • Review and support site observation reports.
  • Assist with technical investigations and real-world problem solving.
  • Provide engineering troubleshooting support to operations teams for system design intent, site performance shortfalls, failures, and issue resolution.
  • Translate mechanical concepts clearly to non-technical partners and across disciplines.
  • Involvement within industry and vendor interaction to be aware of industry leading technologies.
  • Collaborate with customer technical needs to ensure Aligned is aware and keeping pace with industry technical developments.
  • Complete technical review and validation of new technologies.
  • Technical understanding and evaluation of sustainable practices.
  • Grow understanding of closed loop chilled water plants.
  • Grow understanding of liquid to chip and air-cooled data halls.
  • Grow understanding of CFD modeling and analysis.
  • Grow understanding of building code requirements and industry best practice HVAC design.
  • Participation in discussions, written and verbal, with all of Aligned’ s team members.
  • Individual should be able to communicate complex topics to work groups of varying technical experience.
