About The Position

At Baird, Hampton & Brown, we are building something meaningful: long-term partnerships, strong teams, and creative engineering solutions that make an impact. We’re looking for an Associate Mechanical Engineer to lead the launch and grow our Mechanical presence in San Antonio. This is an opportunity to build something from the ground up. Partnering with our established Electrical team, you’ll shape and expand our Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) services across Central Texas: developing a high-performing team, strengthening client relationships, and helping bring BHB’s full MEP capabilities to the region. You’ll work closely with leadership, discipline leads, and our marketing and business development teams to drive strategic growth and deliver projects that matter. Mechanical systems and design will include chilled water systems, steam & hot water boiler systems, VAV systems, industrial process cooling, cooling towers, fume exhaust systems, ground source and water source heat pump systems, AC units and dust collection systems.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license. If the license is outside of Texas, we will expect licensure in Texas within six months.
  • At least 6 years of licensed experience designing Mechanical HVAC/Plumbing systems for commercial and industrial projects.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Connections are a critical part of how we work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a consulting firm designing for commercial, education, healthcare, industrial, historical, and hospitality.
  • Proficiency in HAP, IESVE, Trace, Bluebeam, and vendor specific software.
  • Active membership and/or leadership roles in local engineering or industry associations, such as ASHRAE, ASPE, or TSPE. (We sponsor these!)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as both a technical leader and a business builder—establishing and growing BHB’s Mechanical presence in San Antonio while delivering high-quality, profitable work.
  • Establish and grow the Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) team in San Antonio by recruiting, mentoring, and developing engineers at all levels. Create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, positioning BHB as a trusted partner. Partner with leadership and business development to identify opportunities, win work, and expand our presence in Central Texas.
  • Oversee project execution from concept through construction, ensuring quality, profitability, and client satisfaction. Manage budgets, schedules, and resources while balancing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Guide the design of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and related infrastructure. Provide direction, review work, and ensure designs are practical, efficient, and aligned with project needs and industry standards.
  • Work closely with Electrical, Civil, Structural, and other teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality solutions. Contribute to a unified MEP approach as we expand services in the region.
  • Provide oversight during construction, including reviewing documents, responding to RFIs, and ensuring the successful implementation of design intent.

Benefits

  • BHB sponsors employee medical, dental, vision, short-term & long-term disability, and basic life insurance, as well as subsidizing a significant family portion.
  • Voluntary life and AD&D insurances
  • Paid parental & adoption leave after 12 months of employment
  • A PTO bank immediately available
  • 401(k) & Roth matching.
  • Many employee and family events throughout the year
  • Lifelong learning, providing many inhouse & external training opportunities including formal & informal mentorship programs.
  • Sponsorship of multiple professional & industry memberships, licensure, and leadership opportunities.
