About The Position

The Associate Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for engineering design and development activities to meet project requirements as defined by the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. This role supports the improvement of one or more manufacturing processes or areas, including designing or redesigning process tooling, new production processes, and equipment. The engineer will collaborate with operations, production employees, and maintenance to identify opportunities and lead projects from concept to full implementation. This position may involve leading internal and external company resources for projects and supporting other manufacturing lines or company initiatives. The incumbent must follow standard design and development procedures, recommend updates, and continually improve their knowledge of existing assemblies and manufacturing capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point and Microsoft Word
  • Previous work experience within the mechanical design field
  • Previous work experience managing projects
  • 3D Computer Aided Design experience (ideally Inventor)

Nice To Haves

  • Machine design, production process or tooling design experience
  • Mechanical, hydraulic, electrical system design
  • 3+ years of relevant design experience
  • Experience with steel metallurgy, welding processes
  • FEA-Finite Element Analysis experience
  • Extensive experience developing and improving production machines and processes
  • 3D scanning and design
  • Licensed Professional Engineer certification
  • Familiarity with Lean and Lean Tools

Responsibilities

  • Engineering design and development activities to meet project requirements.
  • Support improvement activities in assigned manufacturing processes or areas.
  • Design or redesign process tooling, new production processes, and equipment.
  • Work with operations, production employees, and maintenance to identify opportunities and lead implementation.
  • Lead internal and external company resources through projects.
  • Follow standard design and development procedures and recommend updates.
  • Continually improve knowledge of existing assemblies and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Act as a project team leader working with cross-functional partners.
  • Attend technical design review meetings and provide technical design inputs and direction.
  • Provide technical support to other departments as required.
  • Implement and sometimes write project plans and monitor progress per established schedule and budget targets.
  • Maintain good relationships with customers, field personnel, and other Valmont departments.
  • Maintain detailed project documentation.
  • Advance personal technical competence to participate in new design concepts.
  • Review and provide inputs to the product development procedure.
  • Coordinate and conduct laboratory or field testing.
  • Ensure design efficiency and manufacturability by working with Engineering, production supervisors, and maintenance.
