About The Position

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is seeking to hire a seasonal Associate Judge for the 2026 Racing Season. Under the direction of the Director of Racing, this position is responsible for ensuring the safety and integrity of the race meet. This position will be based at Plainridge Park in Plainville, MA. The anticipated dates of service are April through November.

  • Current level III or higher accreditation through the Racing Officials Accreditation Program
  • Current licensure as an Associate or Presiding Judge with the United States Trotting Association
  • The successful candidate must pass an extensive background check conducted by the Massachusetts State Police. It includes a full credit check, CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), fingerprinting, drug test, reference checks, review of IRS Income Tax Transcripts for the last four years, and a Certificate of Good Standing from the Massachusetts Dept. of Revenue (DOR).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with relevant office software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite
  • Previous similar experience in a local, state, or federal government agency setting

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the conduct of all racing officials
  • Review all applications for occupational licenses and make approval/denial decisions
  • Oversee the opening of entries and the drawing of positions; review eligibility of all entries; review programs for errors and changes; promptly report errors and changes
  • Observe each race and replay; participate in the review of inquiries or objections; make results official; designate horses for testing
  • Participate in hearings regarding alleged rule infractions; recommend appropriate sanctions
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to questions and complaints
