About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Associate Investment Consultant to join our team in our Toronto office. As an Associate Investment Consultant in the investment consulting department, you will collaborate with diverse clients and industries in a dynamic environment, contributing as a key member of project teams to design programs that drive client success. This role offers exposure to a broad range of investment-related projects and the opportunity to develop skills for career progression. This is a hybrid role that requires being in the office 3 days a week. An Associate Investment Consultant manages and produces performance evaluation reports for their assigned clients by using Mercer proprietary tools (GIMD, MPA, DC Report Writer) as well as Microsoft tools, which cover the client's portfolio performance of each of the funds within the client's investment options. Prepare and manage the development of the quarterly market environment presentation, which includes the general state of the economy, how the stock/bond markets did both domestically and internationally, and economic trends and changes in regulations in the investment world. Filters through research notes in Mercer investment manager database, GIMD; to look for issues that may affect clients portfolios. Communicates with investment managers and custodians to gather and/or clarify client-specific data for reporting. Closely examine and monitor developments at investment management firms and notify clients of critical issues in an accurate and timely manner. Supports periodic inquires from clients on quarterly performance or ad hoc requests via the client or filtered through the senior consultant. Attend and participate in quarterly client meetings. Over time meeting responsibilities will increase and Associate will be expected to present specific areas of review. (i.e. manager updates, participant trends, and/or manager performance).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or related fields with strong quantitative and analytical coursework.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of work experience in a consulting analyst role.
  • Strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative, and working knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Superior organizational skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Actively working towards or have obtained the CFA designation
  • Ability to communicate in French

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis using Mercer proprietary tools.
  • Produce quarterly performance reports for clients.
  • Critically analyze investment markets, managers’ investment styles, and portfolio characteristics, evaluating their impact on quarterly investment performance.
  • Communicate with investment managers, record keepers, and custodians to gather or clarify client-specific data for reporting.
  • Play an important role in investment manager searches, asset allocation studies, and ad-hoc projects such as plan design benchmarking, retirement preparedness studies, and financial wellness assessments.
  • Support consultants in servicing existing clients and prospects.
  • Develop the knowledge and skills necessary to progress to a consultant role.
  • Demonstrate ease and effectiveness in interactions with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • Represent and promote Mercer’s brand both internally and externally.
