About The Position

Eckert & Ziegler Isotope Products provides sealed and unsealed radiation sources and materials for various applications including Medical Imaging, Industrial measurement and analysis, Oil Well Logging, Reference, Calibration and Environmental Monitoring, and bulk radioisotopes for pharmaceutical, therapeutic and industrial product manufacturing. They also offer services for collection, recycling and disposal of sources and low-activity waste, and sources for industrial Non-Destructive Testing. The company also provides high-activity radiation sources for radiation processing and sterilization, as well as medical and industrial irradiators for blood irradiation, sterilization or calibration. Eckert & Ziegler Isotope Products seeks an Associate Health Physicist to join their team. The Associate Health Physicist reports to the Supervising Health Physicist and is responsible for hands-on daily support of laboratory chemists and assigned aspects of the radiological safety program. This role performs routine surveillance to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies, and evaluates ionizing radiation exposure to protect employees, visitors, and the public. Support for non-radiological safety programs and guidance for Health Physics Technicians are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Health Physics (or related field) with radiological laboratory experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in Health Physics-related activities, general laboratory safety, or advanced degree in related fields.
  • Must be able to travel and work in Valencia and Burbank.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Use of Geiger, ion chamber, or other radiation control instruments and meters
  • Analysis of radioactive samples using ion chamber and liquid scintillation equipment
  • Conduct radiation safety surveys and other routine tasks.
  • Perform radiation dose and effluent calculations, and analyses.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficiency in standard office software; word processing, spreadsheets, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in Health Physics or related subject preferred.
  • HAZWOPER, CPR & First Aid and Certified Shipper a plus

Responsibilities

  • Conduct all assigned tasks in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and Company policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance of company work practices and policies with applicable federal and state laws and regulations
  • Provide radiological surveillance support for production activities covered by Special Radiological Work Permits (SRWPs)
  • Work and communicate with regulatory agencies and inspectors
  • Collect, prepare, package and assay radioactive waste for disposal
  • Provide assistance with analyzing waste samples and coordinating waste disposal shipments
  • Evaluate internal and external radiation doses received by employees, visitors or members of the public
  • Ventilation system filtration maintenance. Glove box filtration maintenance.
  • Conduct radiological assessment of laboratory operations, making recommendations for improvement and reduction in radiation dose
  • Provide assistance with non-radiological waste programs
  • Provide assistance with OSHA related safety elements
  • Repair, maintain and calibrate survey instruments as required
  • Conduct and maintain inventory and leak test of sealed sources
  • Maintain/Review Health Physics records
  • Other duties as assigned
