About The Position

Fairfield University is currently seeking a full-time Associate Head Coach, men’s lacrosse. In keeping with the University’s Jesuit mission and identity, candidates must be committed to the equity, welfare and sporting conduct of our student athletes. Fairfield University competes in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Outstanding technical, tactical and strategic knowledge of lacrosse.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to work with and relate well to a diverse group of athletes, administrators, and University constituents is a necessity.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft office applications, gamebreaker, and basic video editing programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's of Education or similar preferred.
  • High level collegiate coaching experience or collegiate playing experience preferred.
  • Offense and attack oriented applicants preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach with all aspects of a competitive Division I program, including: player development, practice organization, recruiting, game management, maintaining equipment, monitoring academic progress of student-athletes, coordinating team travel, and compliance with NCAA, CAA and institutional regulations.
  • Assist in the management and administration of the intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Program within the guidelines, rules and regulations of Fairfield University, the CAA Conference and the NCAA.
  • Counsel students regarding educational issues, such as course and program selection, class scheduling and registration, school adjustment, study habits, and career planning.
  • Develop the Men’s Lacrosse program along with the Head Coach to ensure academic and athletic excellence among student-athletes.
  • Advise and assist students and provide educational and vocational guidance.
  • Lead and mentor student-athletes and provide educational and academic counseling services to help them maintain eligibility, career planning and academic excellence.
  • Monitor and assess student-athletes for areas of improvement, develop individualized improvement goals, and support student-athletes in achieving set goals.
  • Encourage and promote excellence in academics from student athletes while implementing academic support services, including study hall, monitoring academic performance, and referral to appropriate University academic resources.
  • Establish and supervise peer counseling and peer tutoring programs.
  • Compile and study occupational, educational and economic information to assist counselees in determining and carrying out vocational and educational objectives.
  • Establish contacts with employers to create internship and employment opportunities for students.
  • Organize and supervise practice, conditioning and workouts.
  • Scout and recruit quality student-athletes from geographically and demographically diverse populations.
  • Coordinate admissions with University and Department compliance.
  • Develop a positive working relationship with faculty and University staff to assist in the recruiting process.
  • Prepare correspondence with prospects, coaches, parents, alumni etc. including mailings and emails.
  • Arrange all campus visitations, including itineraries, academic appointments, campus tours, town tours, student-athlete hosts, housing, meals, tickets and entertainment.
  • Establish and enforce administration policies and rules governing student behavior.
  • Enforce all NCAA and University regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the program operating and recruiting budgets.
  • Complete required compliance paperwork.
  • Performs such other duties, responsibilities, and activities as required by supervisor and as departmental/University needs indicate.
