About The Position

The Associate Head Athletic Trainer is a vital member to the sports medicine team and will work alongside staff, athletic trainers, team physicians, and orthopedic consultants at The University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The Associate Head Athletic Trainer reports directly to the Head Athletic Trainer. This position will serve as the primary athletic trainer for the sports agreed up by the Head Athletic trainer and based on the qualification of the candidate. This sport assignment associated with this position will be responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management, rehabilitation, and documentation of the athletic injuries of the designated teams. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
BOC Certification
Eligible for licensure in the State of Arkansas
Knowledge of University, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations
Possess the requisite qualities for the profession
Sports injury assessment, treatment, management, and rehabilitation
Knowledge of applicable laws related to medical information (i.e., HIPAA)
Appropriate taping, wrapping, and use of protective devices
Able to handle a high workload in a demanding environment and be well organized
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information and issues; and be able to work independently
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle
Ability to relate well with student-athletes, team physicians and coaches, etc.

Responsibilities

Responsible for overseeing athletic-related medical care for all student-athletes
Provide daily treatments, rehabilitation, and management of athletic injuries/illnesses for student-athletes
Travel will be required but not limited to the teams assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer for the regular season and championship competitions
Establish a line of communication with coaches/medical personnel concerning student-athlete medical care
Liaison with Little Rock Team Physicians and other medical personnel concerning student-athlete medical care
Coordinate student-athlete appointments and follow-ups with physicians as needed. This includes but is not limited to orthopedic, ophthalmic, dental and family practice
Maintain and update individual student-athlete files including but not limited to medical treatment/history, rehabilitation programs, drug testing results and family insurance information
Liaison with campus mental health services and outside practitioners for all student-athlete referrals related to mental health prevention and concerns
Coordinate with Sodexho to develop nutritional resources and meal options for all sports teams
Collaborate with registered dieticians and physicians to support student-athletes with potential eating patterns or disorders
Communicate with Head Coaches concerning student-athlete welfare
Parental contact in case of serious injury or perceived incident with the Head Coach
Coordinate annual physicals for incoming and returning student-athletes
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer
Survey the practice facility for safety, remove dangerous objects, and notify the appropriate personnel of any repairs needed
Comply with the rules and regulations of the league, conference and schoo
Plan and implement comprehensive programs to prevent injury and illness among athletes
Apply protective or injury-preventive devices such as tape, bandages, and braces
