The Air Traffic Management Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for an Associate Hardware Systems Engineer to work in our Gaithersburg, MD office. This is an exciting opportunity to be a member of a dynamic team working on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) En-Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) technology, which is the heart of the national air transportation system. ERAM provides the foundational platform for the National Airspace System (NAS) to monitor and manage high-altitude aircraft, increasing flight efficiency, safety, and capacity. Primary Responsibilities Creation and updates of Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings, Cable Marking Specifications, as well as Retrofit and Workbook Installation Instructions, Product selection trade studies, development of System Bill Of Materials, Computer Rack and Operator Console builds, Preparation of detailed designs, design testing, prototype fabrication and providing design information to drafting for packaging documentation. , Candidate will participate in the Systems Engineering (SE) design lifecycle for hardware products including research, development, estimates, processes, and provide technical support to meet cost, schedule, and design objectives. Candidate will develop electrical wiring/cable diagrams/schematics and cable lists for interconnection/installation of components/assemblies. Participate in design reviews, communicate with vendors/suppliers, oversee fabrication, participate in troubleshooting/problem solving during integration, ensure collaborative support across hardware or systems design, procurement, system admin, operations, integration, and build team personnel. Develop new designs or modifications of existing systems as required to meet project goals. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of overall objectives and anticipated results. Work with other groups such as Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Site Activation, Procurement and Program Management personnel to facilitate task completion. Troubleshoot, analyze, and repair systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles. Work with CAD Designer and other engineering support organizations to produce documentation such as engineering drawings, source control drawings, system specifications, and test procedures. Develop task requirements from Statement of Work (SOW) definitions, develop system specifications and test procedures. Duties may include activities such as design, testing, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of devices or equipment. May be responsible for establishing and conducting testing routines, developing or executing project plans, budgets, schedules, documentation of work and results. Supporting the engineering change process and other duties as assigned. Understand, communicate and apply new concepts quickly. Must be able to work independently or on a team. Must be able to work extended hours as required. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment
