About The Position

The Financial Institutions & Sponsors team provides investment banking services to existing and prospective clients across a broad range of financial institutions and sponsors. As an Associate, you'll support the execution of mergers and acquisitions, strategic and capital structure advisory mandates, equity and debt financings, and other complex transactions for clients across North America and key global markets. Working closely with Managing Directors, Executive Directors and Directors, you'll contribute to transaction execution, client relationship development, industry and company research, and the preparation of strategic materials for live mandates and new business opportunities. You'll help connect clients to the full capabilities of CIBC Capital Markets, including advisory, debt and equity solutions. This role offers exposure to senior client executives, investors and internal product partners, along with meaningful opportunities to build your technical expertise and commercial judgment. Requirements

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, asset management, financial institutions coverage, transaction advisory or a related field.
  • Experience in financial modelling, valuation analysis, accounting concepts and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Degree/diploma in finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, business or a related discipline.
  • Legally eligible to work at the location(s) specified and, where applicable, must have a valid work or study permit.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience supporting clients in the financial services or private capital sectors.
  • Completion of, or progress toward, a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Finance.
  • Experience with market data and research tools such as Bloomberg, FactSet or similar platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct industry, company and market research, and complete detailed quantitative analysis to support client strategy, transaction execution and the identification of new investment banking opportunities.
  • Prepare high-quality client presentations, pitch materials and supporting analysis that help inform recommendations and advance new and existing mandates.
  • Build, maintain and review sophisticated financial models, including valuation, operating and transaction models, with a strong understanding of key assumptions and business drivers.
  • Support live transactions by assisting with due diligence, coordinating workstreams, preparing marketing and process materials, and helping manage execution timelines across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build strong working relationships across the Financial Institutions & Sponsors team, product partners and other business groups, while developing professional connections with clients, prospects and market participants.
  • Support senior investment banking colleagues and help maintain internal databases, comparable company materials and other team resources in a current and organized manner.
