About The Position

We’re looking for an attorney with a strong background in utility regulation, ideally also with experience in real estate, development, municipal, or land use law, to lead a team providing legal advice and counseling to business units within ComEd on a wide variety of issues but with a particular focus on capital projects and project management, real estate, environmental, and municipal issues. Experience in the energy, utility, or telecom industry, and in Illinois is preferred. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong comprehension of the electric utility business and the regulatory environment, superior legal judgment in the business context, and generates new ideas and devises original and successful solutions, programs, and actions.

Requirements

  • An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions.
  • At least 12 years of professional experience and widely recognized distinction for his/her specialty practice.
  • Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of legal field to the completion of complex assignments.
  • Extensive knowledge of courts, regulatory agencies and other applicable legal entities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of attorneys focused on property acquisition, negotiations and agreements with customers, commercial contracts, subpoenas, renewable energy generation connection and siting, affiliate contracts, financings, marketing and communications materials, franchise agreements, and inter-utility and affiliate relationships based on a strong comprehension of the electric utility business, Illinois law, and Illinois energy policy objectives.
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel to senior leadership concerning legal, compliance, and regulatory matters.
  • Under little or no supervision, plan, conduct and supervise large and highly complex legal assignments, evaluating both legal and business risks.
  • Prepares and manages team administrative tasks, including budgets and engagements for matters involving outside counsel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $212,800.00/Yr. – $292,600.00/Yr. plus an additional $50K in Long Term Incentive Plan annually
