About The Position

The Associate General Counsel will be responsible to provide legal counsel and services, in consultation with and under the direction of the General Counsel, and in coordination with other members of the Legal Department, to enable World Vision International and the broader World Vision “Partnership” to carry out their mission in compliance with applicable laws and at an acceptable level of legal risk.

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organisation with a mission centred on following Jesus Christ in service to the world´s most vulnerable children. Therefore, in all locations to the fullest extent legally permissible, the successful applicant will affirm our core documents, observe conduct compatible with Christian principles, serve at a high level of professional ethics and strive to act in accordance with cultural sensitivities. Furthermore, regular attendance with team and office devotions, chapel and prayer gatherings are expected in line with policies in the World Vision host location and its departments.

Requirements

• US Juris Doctorate, or foreign equivalent.
• At least 5 years’ experience as a practicing attorney, with at least some of that in a major global law firm and engaged in cross-border, multijurisdictional matters is highly desired.
• Solid foundation in fundamental legal theories, ability to identify problems and legal issues and provide practical advice to in-house clients, good negotiating and research skills, as well as effective written and oral communication skills.
• Experience in dealing with outside counsel, preferably global exposure and general knowledge of international affairs.
• Sensitivity in and exposure to cross-cultural situations.
• Fluent in written and spoken English

Nice To Haves

• Admittance to the California Bar is also preferred but we will consider waiving the California requirement for an exceptional candidate who is admitted to the bar in another jurisdictions.
• Exposure/experience with countries in the developing world would be highly advantageous.
• Experience both in law firms and corporate in-house legal departments would be preffered.
• Experience in a non-US legal system, particularly the Civil Law system would be preferred.
• Experience with nonprofit organisations would be highly advantageous.
• Fluency in a second language (especially Spanish, French, or Portuguese) would be highly advantageous.
