About The Position

The Associate General Counsel, Regulatory Affairs provides advice to internal departments on a wide range of legal issues. The AGC coordinates regulatory interactions and examinations for Jackson's insurance and distribution businesses; oversees regulatory filings and other regulatory submissions; facilitates remediation of exam findings; provides leadership with regulatory examinations and interactions; assists with highly confidential projects; assists with the development and implementation of corporate policies; and coordinates legal and compliance efforts related to artificial intelligence, data governance, privacy, and social media.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from ABA accredited law school required.
  • Member in good standing of a State Bar Association required.
  • 8+ years of prior legal experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years of insurance and/or financial securities experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates responses to regulatory inquiries and examination requests, including matters received from state, federal, and international regulators.
  • Partners and collaborates with key stakeholders across Jackson’s actuarial, finance, operations, insurance, and distribution businesses to identify key regulatory issues impacting the Company.
  • Responsible for preparation and timely submission of regulatory filings, amendments, and other confidential regulatory communications associated with Jackson’s domestic and international regulatory obligations.
  • Prepares interpretive guidance and coordinates regulatory implementations as requested.
  • Supports the Government Relations department with federal and state advocacy by providing technical expertise, including provision of model legislative and regulatory language and contributing to position papers on legislative and regulatory issues.
  • Reviews the Company’s policies for compliance with applicable laws and regulations and industry best practices and, where necessary, creates policies and procedures where none exist or updates existing policies.
  • Assists in the implementation and management of remediating items identified by regulators as either formal findings or potential issues arising from exams or identified internally by the Jackson Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Identifies trends within the regulatory landscape that may impact Jackson, especially those arising from exams, enforcement actions, and other state guidance.
  • Provides regular reporting on examination and regulatory activity both within Jackson and the marketplace at large.
  • Researches and handles legal issues, prepares legal and risk analysis as requested by the AVP, Regulatory Affairs; Jackson Chief Compliance Officer; and Enterprise Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Occasional business travel may be required.
  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
