Position Summary The Associate General Counsel strengthens Life Time by providing legal support to help clients advance their business goals and objectives while mitigating legal risk, including cross functional contribution to business initiatives.

Requirements

  • Four-year undergraduate degree
  • J.D. from an accredited law school, with strong academic credentials
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in commercial retail/office real estate leasing, acquisition, disposition and development, with a demonstrated track record of handling complex, high-value transactions
  • Deep expertise in leasing, drafting and negotiating retail and office leases, subleases, amendments and termination agreements is critical, including the ability to identify and resolve novel or non-standard lease issues independently
  • Deep expertise in reviewing, drafting and negotiating real estate development/acquisition or disposition documentation, with the ability to lead deal execution from letter of intent through closing
  • Excellent academic and law firm/in-house credentials
  • A strategic and innovative approach to legal issues, with the ability to anticipate risk and proactively shape business initiatives and objectives at the enterprise level
  • A high level of professionalism, executive presence, and outstanding business judgment, with the ability to advise and influence senior leadership on real estate strategy
  • Proven ability to independently spearhead, prioritize, and manage a high volume of concurrent real estate and development transactions in a fast-paced, high-growth company with minimal oversight.
  • Lead and partner with the real estate and development team on comprehensive due diligence in real estate deals, including evaluation of existing property special assessments, use restrictions, zoning issues, and other title and survey matters requiring senior-level judgment
  • Demonstrated cross-functional leadership skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with finance, construction, operations, and other business units to drive real estate initiatives forward
  • A passion for providing unparalleled client service

Nice To Haves

  • Significant experience on the tenant side of leasing transactions is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a dynamic in-house environment
  • Experience with multi-state residential landlord/tenant law and property management

Responsibilities

  • Provides advice and counsel to internal clients
  • Drafts and negotiates letters of intent, leases, purchase agreements, amendments, declarations, easements, correspondence relating to real estate transactions and other real estate documentation
  • Reviews title and survey and due diligence
