About The Position

Novelis is a global leader in aluminum recycling and rolling, providing sustainable aluminum solutions for aerospace, automotive, beverage packaging, and specialty markets. With headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, Novelis operates 32 facilities across 4 continents and employs approximately 13,000 people. The Legal team is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel-Compliance to enhance its global governance, compliance, and ethics programs. This role will collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer and senior leadership to develop compliance strategy, manage global governance, lead training initiatives, and monitor regulatory changes across various jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will possess significant in-house compliance experience, strong leadership and business acumen, and a deep understanding of global regulatory frameworks, with a proven ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business solutions and foster a culture of ethics and integrity.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active bar license in good standing in at least one state
  • 15+ years of experience in corporate and compliance roles, including in-house experience in a large organization
  • Strong understanding of applicable laws and regulations, including anticorruption, antitrust, sanctions, environmental, and health & safety
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, make sound decisions, and drive timely and effective action to ensure compliance and data integrity
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex legal and compliance concepts into practical, business-oriented guidance
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to anticipate risks and advise across a variety of business scenarios
  • Proven leadership capabilities and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including executive leadership
  • Ability to align priorities and resources with business strategy while promoting a strong compliance culture
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and regions
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to manage multiple complex projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced, global environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and improving the effectiveness and maturity of compliance programs
  • Ability to work effectively in a global, dynamic environment with an operational mindset
  • High attention to detail with a quality-driven approach and ability to independently identify and resolve issues
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years leading a compliance function, including personnel and budget management
  • Deep expertise in the areas of antitrust, anticorruption and/or international data privacy regulations
  • Experience in a multinational or global manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Support the Chief Compliance Officer in establishing global compliance strategy and long-term priorities aligned with business objectives
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to senior leadership and contribute to Board-level reporting
  • Monitor global regulatory developments and advise on applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Implement systems and processes to ensure ongoing compliance and risk mitigation
  • Oversee development, implementation, and maintenance of compliance policies and procedures
  • Identify compliance risks and implement corrective action plans to address gaps
  • Support the development of compliance training and awareness programs
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training programs and drive continuous improvement
  • Support oversight of enterprise governance structures
  • Enhance ethics programs, including ethics reporting systems, anti-retaliation measures, and conflict-of-interest processes
  • Monitor developments in global trade regulations, sanctions, tariffs, and export controls
  • Provide guidance to mitigate legal and regulatory risks across regions
