The Associate Floater, Child and Family Development performs duties necessary to teach and care for infant through twelve-year-old children, provides support and constant communication with families, and serves as a model for college students, specifically in Child and Family Development. This role assists with the operation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom using a constructivist curriculum and environment with quality interactions and programming based on licensing regulations and accreditation standards. In the absence of the Teacher, the Associate Floater coordinates students, work study students, childcare attendants, therapists, and observers in the classroom. They welcome and invite college students to be a part of the CDLC community, model developmentally appropriate practice, and provide coaching and feedback to students during practicum time. The role involves observing and recording development for individual children, potentially working with the Childcare Teacher to create individual goals for the children, and using these goals to support the creation of the constructivist curriculum and environment. Maintaining paperwork for children's records and classroom curriculum is essential. The Associate Floater also coordinates resources for children with special needs and works with the manager and Childcare Teachers to ensure children’s needs are met. Developing and maintaining rapport and trust with families is key, which may include attending developmental, transition, and exit conferences, or additional conferences. Participation in educational parent meetings, supporting the Childcare Teacher with daily communication and bimonthly newsletters, and participating in CDLC Parent Advisory Council, STLCC, campus, and community events are also part of the role. Other job-related duties may be assigned.
