About The Position

This is a posting to gather a pool of qualified applicants for possible openings in the Eureka area for Academic Year 2026 - 2027. The role involves teaching and non-teaching assignments, demonstrating effective performance of duties and responsibilities. It requires currency and depth of knowledge in the discipline, patience, fairness, and promptness in evaluating student work. The position also demands sensitivity to diverse learning needs, effective communication and organizational skills, and sound judgment in following college policy. For teaching assignments, effective methods and materials are expected, encouraging a variety of pedagogical approaches. For non-teaching assignments, responsibilities include communication, coordination, quality of work, and potentially program development, budget planning, program leadership, and collegial governance. The role ensures curriculum, course outlines, and written materials are current and appropriate, incorporating communication, computational, critical thinking, and cultural diversity skills. Adherence to state and federal regulations is also required. Additional responsibilities may include peer mentoring, meeting contractual obligations like advising and maintaining office hours, fulfilling division/department obligations, and participating in professional growth activities. Leadership and commitment to the profession through involvement in professional organizations, collegial governance, college committees, campus activities, curriculum development, or classroom research are encouraged. Collaboration with colleagues to support student success and align with the college's philosophy and mission is essential. Participation in program review and accreditation processes is also part of the role. Professional conduct includes promoting intellectual inquiry, valuing diverse opinions, respecting the college community and profession, fostering a non-discriminatory environment, and supporting gender equity and cultural diversity.

Requirements

  • Master’s in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography or paleontology OR Bachelor’s in geology AND Master’s in geography, physics, or geochemistry OR the equivalent
  • All degrees and units must be from regionally accredited (or equivalent) institutions of higher education.
  • For Classes III and IV, all units beyond a Bachelor’s Degree must be upper division or graduate level semester units (or equivalent) earned subsequent to the granting of the Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Non-U.S. citizens who cannot provide evidence of authorization to work in the U.S. are ineligible for this position.
  • The Redwoods Community College District does not sponsor non-U.S. citizens to work in the U.S.

  • Experience years as an intern paid or unpaid do not count as occupation years.
  • Up to two steps may be credited to a faculty member for prior teaching experience.
  • Maximum step placement for teaching experience is step 2.
  • Credit for college teaching experience will be computed as one step for each one year of experience.
  • Credit for high school teaching experience will be computed as follows one step for each two years of experience.
  • Note: Even if you obtained your graduate degree(s) in the U.S., you must attach a Foreign Credential Evaluation for your undergraduate degree if it was obtained outside the U.S.

  • Uses effective written and oral communication skills with students and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills in the classroom and/or work site.
  • Exercises effective judgment in following college policy.
  • Uses teaching methods and materials challenging to the student and appropriate to the subject matter, consistent with departmental curriculum, while encouraging within a department a variety of successful pedagogical approaches to learning.
