About The Position

The Associate Environmental Field Technician is an entry-level role within UL Solutions' Environmental team, supporting the delivery of asbestos surveying, sampling, and inspection services across a variety of client sites. Working under the guidance of experienced Surveyors and Lead Surveyors, the Associate Environmental Field Technician assists with field activities, sample collection, data gathering, and report preparation while developing technical knowledge and practical experience in asbestos management and environmental compliance. This role is ideal for individuals looking to build a career in environmental consulting, surveying, or occupational health and safety. UL Solutions provides training, mentorship, and development opportunities to support progression toward industry-recognized qualifications and more senior surveying roles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, vocational qualification, college education, or equivalent experience.
  • Interest in environmental services, occupational health and safety, or building inspection.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn technical processes.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites and work in field-based environments.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to travel to project locations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced Surveyors with asbestos surveys in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
  • Support the collection of asbestos samples and site data following UL Solutions procedures and safety standards.
  • Learn to identify common building materials and construction types relevant to asbestos surveying.
  • Accurately record inspection findings, measurements, photographic evidence, and site observations.
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements while working on client sites.
  • Assist with site preparation, equipment setup, and sample handling activities.
  • Compile field notes and survey information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Support the preparation of survey reports and client documentation.
  • Maintain clear and organized records of site activities and sample information.
  • Ensure data is entered correctly into company systems and reporting tools.
  • Assist with the maintenance, cleaning, storage, and basic checks of survey equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is handled safely and reported if damaged or malfunctioning.
  • Support inventory management of field supplies and consumables.
  • Participate in all required UL Solutions training and onboarding programs.
  • Work toward obtaining industry qualifications, including the S P402 qualification (if not already held).
  • Develop knowledge of asbestos regulations, surveying techniques, and environmental best practices.
  • Seek guidance from senior team members and actively contribute to a positive learning environment.
