About The Position

National Grid is hiring an Associate Engineer to join their collaborative MA Gas Engineering team in the Central region, based in Waltham, MA. This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office. The team develops and manages the design and engineering for pipeline projects within the New England Central distribution territory. The team is made up of civil and mechanical engineers of all skill and experience levels, working under the supervision and mentorship of Professional Engineers.

Requirements

  • ABET-accredited B.S. Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering required at start date
  • Graduating Seniors will be expected to have a start date no later than August 1, 2026
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD design software for 2D modeling
  • Valid driver’s license required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience, including co-ops and/or internships, in civil or mechanical engineering role is preferred, but not required
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS software is preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with Power Automate, VBA, and SQL is desired, but not required
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or demonstrated ability to obtain within one year

Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate designs for natural gas engineering projects to enhance our distribution system
  • Assess project scopes to identify local permitting requirements and infrastructure risks early in the design process, ensuring a comprehensive, high-quality, and safe project outcome
  • Manage multiple projects and prioritize work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Design and prepare construction drawings as part of the internal design workflow, using AutoCAD and adhering to National Grid standards and industry best practices
  • Manage external engineering design firms and ensure their construction drawings are prepared in accordance with company and industry standards, and comply with any state and municipal requirements
  • Review construction standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with company and industry standards
  • Participate in our Engineering Competency Development Program (ECDP) – training program to learn fundamental gas work knowledge
