Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, completed no later than 2026.
  • A minimum of 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • A proactive problem-solver and strategic decision-maker who excels at organizing high-priority projects in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with electric utility and power including knowledge of distribution systems.
  • Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills; strong planning and organizing skills; adaptable and results- oriented.
  • Possess leadership skills, professionalism and customer/client focus.
  • Candidates must hold a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain a safe, satisfactory driving record.
  • Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
  • The successful applicant must prove they are: (1) a citizen or national of the USA; OR (2) a lawful permanent resident of the United States (Non-Conditional Permanent I-551 / Green Card / Permanent Resident Card holder); OR (3) a citizen, national, or permanent resident of a “Generally Authorized” destination on the attached list and not also a citizen, national, permanent resident of any country not listed; OR (4) a “Protected Individual” under the Immigration and Naturalization Act (8 U.S.C 1324b(a)(3)).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Long Island Electric System, Knowledge of Small Generator Interconnection Procedures (SGIP)
  • Awareness and knowledge of Distribution Interconnection Process.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing the distributed energy resource applications into our tariff based small generator interconnection procedure onto the LIPA system.
  • Engineering reviews include single line diagrams and calculations along with working with other internal engineering groups in order to safely and reliably interconnect onto our system.
  • Provide support on technical end to assist Renewable and Non-Renewable projects proposed to interconnect to LIPA Distribution System.
  • Assist in operational management of existing interconnected resources on Distribution system.
  • Participate and contribute to "cradle to grave" application management from the initial Distributed Energy Resource (DER) questions, to application review, invoice creation, CESIR studies, Interconnection Agreement to construction management and project close-out.
