About The Position

DELTA |v| Forensic Engineering is seeking an Associate Engineer for its Nashville, TN office. This role is a key part of the accident reconstruction team, providing expert consulting services to clients in the legal, insurance, and transportation industries. The position involves a mix of fieldwork and in-office analysis, utilizing advanced technologies like 3D laser scanning, drones, and cameras for site documentation, and analyzing factors such as vehicle speed, damage, and driver reaction times using specialized software for precise accident reconstructions. Ideal candidates should possess strong communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, high mechanical aptitude, and a proactive commitment to science-based accident reconstruction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency or demonstrated aptitude in 3D modeling and engineering software tools.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in both field and office environments.
  • Ability to manage regional travel requirements (approximately 50%).
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-based environment.
  • Ability and desire to learn new tools, technologies, and analytical methods.
  • Engineering fundamentals relevant to motor vehicle crash analysis.
  • Vehicle dynamics, automotive systems, and mechanical principles.
  • Interest in or exposure to advanced driver-assist systems, autonomous vehicle technologies, and vehicle data networks.

  • Master’s degree candidates preferred.
  • Academic or applied experience in technical research, analysis, or engineering projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site inspections, vehicle assessments, and rapid-response investigations.
  • Capture and document physical evidence using advanced tools, including 3D laser scanning, drones, and digital photography.
  • Preserve scene and vehicle conditions through accurate documentation prior to environmental or external changes.
  • Apply engineering principles to analyze vehicle motion, damage patterns, impact forces, and driver response.
  • Utilize specialized software tools, including CAD, photogrammetry, collision simulation, laser scanning platforms, and vehicle event data recorder (EDR) analysis.
  • Support planning and execution of engineering analyses under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Prepare clear, technically accurate written materials in support of engineering reports.
  • Assist with the development of visual exhibits and reconstruction models.
  • Present technical findings to internal team members and, as appropriate, external audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Support multiple projects with competing deadlines while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, client engagement staff, and operations partners.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and accountability in all client-facing and internal interactions.
