About The Position

The Associate Engineer for the Engineering and Resources group provides engineering & technical support for designing the electric distribution system. This includes customer generated projects (i.e.: new homes and commercial projects) that will require electric power from the LIPA electric distribution system. Also includes company generated capital and expense projects for reinforcing the electric system. This position may require direct interaction with customers, contractors and consulting engineers. This position will include office and field work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree must be earned in 2026 or earlier
  • A minimum of 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Skilled in engineering design analysis and technical evaluation
  • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to translate complex technical data into clear, concise writing and verbal communications skills
  • A proactive problem-solver and strategic decision-maker who excels at organizing high-priority projects in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
  • Exceptional organizational and planning abilities; demonstrated adaptability and a commitment to meeting project milestones
  • Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Lead Engineers to audit work packages for Design Work Order Authorization, ensuring all environmental, municipal, and easement permits are secured.
  • Interpret complex electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering schematics to support project accuracy.
  • Partner with leadership to evaluate division work plans and develop resource strategies for internal and external teams.
  • Coordinate with Project Management and Purchasing through the bidding, awarding, and field execution phases to meet work plan deadlines.
  • Provide economic evaluations and expert guidance on electric distribution systems to internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Assist in developing annual budgets and maintaining accurate budget variance forecasts.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for LIPA-owned and customer-owned distribution design equipment.
  • Manage division safety standards, including equipment inspections (gloves, tools), vehicle maintenance, and team training.
  • Review and approve planner-generated work orders to ensure the successful completion of the Capital Work Plan portfolio (Public Works, PAM, and feeder projects).
  • Support Lead Supervisors at professional society meetings and participate in regular safety/information briefings.
