About The Position

The Water & Engineering Technology department is seeking an Associate Engineer - TPS Engineering. This position performs various engineering-related duties requiring fundamental engineering knowledge for the planning, design, and construction of wastewater treatment and conveyance infrastructure under the direction of a Professional Engineer. Note: The following opportunity is open only to regular, probationary, and temporary employees who are currently employed by Clean Water Services. Requirements

  • Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of civil, environmental, or chemical engineering
  • Knowledge of principles of water and wastewater engineering
  • Knowledge of work planning, scheduling, and team organization
  • Knowledge of computer applications for engineering and project management
  • Knowledge of principles of project planning and management
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Skill in preparing presentations, reviewing engineering documents, evaluating engineering studies, problem-solving, identifying alternative solutions, data collection, analysis, and validation
  • Skill in understanding technical documentation, administrative reports, drawings, specifications, and construction contract documentation
  • Skill in interpreting and applying pertinent federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations
  • Skill in use of software platforms for data collection, research, documentation, presentations, and project coordination
  • Ability to plan and organize assigned work to meet deadlines
  • Ability to understand and interpret specifications, maps, plans, and reports of complex design and construction projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of CWS staff and other government officials, contractors, vendors, community groups, and the general public
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • 6 months of internships or project work in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, chemical, water resources, or environmental engineering, including coursework in hydraulics, wastewater processes, or related engineering areas
  • Possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT Certification) within 12 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Supports engineering projects through the planning, design, construction, and startup phases of project delivery.
  • Assists project teams in problem investigation, validating existing conditions, field inspection, data collection, design planning and presentations, preparation of contract drawings and specifications, contract bidding, and construction coordination and inspection.
  • Assists with preparing and maintaining technical communications, project records, design workshop presentations, construction contract documents, and construction inspection notes.
  • Assists with engineering design using fundamental problem-solving principles and knowledge of hydraulics, surveying, civil earthwork, wastewater treatment processes, mechanical piping, pump selection, structural analysis, and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Provides construction-phase support through field inspections, submittal reviews, responding to requests for information, inspection coordination, startup testing with Operations, and plan review assistance to ensure code compliance.
  • Works collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and stakeholders to coordinate and achieve project objectives.
  • Maintains a positive, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture to improve the understanding and recognition of diversity and foster multidisciplinary and integrated team approaches.
  • Drives a CWS or personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
