The Associate Engineer - Distribution Planning will collaborate on and perform distribution studies including voltage, thermal, N-1, and power factor assessments, short circuit, and flicker. They will collaborate and interact with internal teams on Non-Wires Alternative (Battery Storage) and Smart Grids Innovation on Grid Automation to develop nontraditional solutions. The role involves analyzing and assessing complex Distribution Energy Resources (PV’s & Battery Storage) distribution system interconnections and new customer load interconnections at numerous voltage levels. The engineer will apply established distribution criteria and use sound utility engineering practices to identify deficiencies in the distribution system and recommend Distribution Automation devices, developing designs and recommendations compliant with program objectives. A thorough understanding and application of Distribution Planning tools used in day-to-day basis such as GIS mapping of distribution circuits, power flow, and protection analysis tools is expected. The role requires a continuous effort to innovate and integrate improvements to increase the precision and efficiency of distribution planning, and to seek out and develop subject matter expert skills to mentor and support the team. Collaboration and interaction with internal teams and industry peers on regional and divisional activities is also a key part of the role. Assistance during storm restoration efforts is required.
