About The Position

ASRC Federal Advanced Research, LLC (AFAR) supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Airspace System (NAS) Second Level Engineering Support (SLES) contract. Join our team as an Engineer Level 1 in support of the FAA’s AJW-1432 team. The AJW-1432 team provides support for the FAA’s Surveillance and Broadcast Services Subsystem (SBSS). The National Airway Systems Engineering (NASE) Group, AJW-14, serves as the FAA’s premiere level subject matter experts (SMEs) for the FAA National Airspace System (NAS). The National Airway Systems Engineering Group is a national organization that provides second-level engineering support that directly affects the safety of the flying public. The work accomplished is unique and complex. The contractors who work under this contract have a direct impact on the NAS and their accomplishments contribute to the safety and efficient operation of the busiest air system in the world.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
  • All applicants must have resided in the United States for the past 3 years.
  • On-site presence will be as required by the FAA.
  • Skills in Electrical Engineering is a must, and some skills in software development is a plus.
  • Experience with NAS facilities, systems, and equipment is desirable, but not an absolute must.
  • Requires the application of knowledge of engineering sciences and mathematics, electrical phenomena, and the principles, techniques, and practices of electrical engineering.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Onsite work as well as some travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a mixture of basic and routine (but progressively more difficult) assignments under the close direction of a Technical Manager or more experienced engineer.
  • Assists other employees or acts as an individual contributor and/or member of a team.
  • Applies basic knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts to accomplish assignments.
  • Coordinates with a Technical Manager or more experienced engineer to plan time and use assigned resources to accomplish assignments.
  • Works with other employees, both contract and federal, to share information, provide data and/or written analyses, and to discuss the status of assignments.
  • Works under detailed instructions provided by a Technical Manager or more experienced engineer.
  • Regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager or more experienced engineer when existing guidelines are not available or applicable.
  • Work is reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion for all aspects of quality.
  • Work activities typically support the work of other employees.
  • In some areas, the work may affect the safety and security of customers.
  • Perform engineering studies and write whitepapers.
  • Design, test, and implement modifications on National Airspace System (NAS) equipment.
  • Provide technical expertise and perform field support.
  • Develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Conduct lab and simulated testing, such as via breadboard designs, that demonstrate the feasibility of solutions.
  • Provide hardware and software documentation, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates to implement changes to NAS equipment.
  • Develop changes to technical instruction books and system maintenance handbooks.
  • Write test plans, operation, and maintenance procedures.
  • Participate in systems level integration, validation, and certification of equipment as required.
