About The Position

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. This role is part of the Interconnection Agreements and Programs team, responsible for integrating third-party interconnections with the distribution system and managing third-party generation programs. The position focuses on daily support for the Distributed Generation Program and Simple Renewable Program for generators 550 kW and below, involving regular interaction with internal stakeholders, external customers, and the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) Staff. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university with 0 - 2 years of knowledge of electrical engineering principles.
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited university plus Professional Engineering license with 0 - 2 years of knowledge of electrical engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes related to electronic engineering.
  • Proficient in design and calculation software.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of electric utility distribution planning, construction, operation, and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of electric utility operation (i.e. generation, transmission and distribution of three phase alternating current power).
  • Knowledge of distribution planning principles is an asset.
  • Proficient in data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI).
  • Familiarity with SAP.
  • Comfortable communicating with customers.
  • Knowledge of LEAN principles and/or the CE Way 4 basic plays.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, control, and implementation of electrical systems and products.
  • Design, maintain, implement, or improve electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes.
  • Perform a wide range of engineering tasks using computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment.
  • Write reports and compile data regarding existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies for senior engineer review.
  • Support efforts to ensure installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by taking direction from senior engineers on coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities.
  • Prepare specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials and estimate material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation.
  • Collaborate with senior level engineers on gathering data and feedback from customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects.
  • Adhere to construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations.
  • Utilize and enhance the Company’s application workflow management tool, PowerClerk, to support renewable program activities for generator interconnection applications.
  • Support development of testimony, discovery requests, data analysis and reporting, and other regulatory requests.
  • Maintain compliance with MPSC rules governing interconnection (deadlines, procedural requirements, etc.).
  • Participate in internal cross-functional teams to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Support periodic and ad hoc reporting to regulatory agencies (e.g., MPSC, EIA).
