This is the entry level of the EHS Consulting classification hierarchy. This position provides comprehensive environmental support to Customer Delivery and Transmission organizational sections in OH/KY/SE IN. Employees at this level solve problems in environmental areas of specialization, with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. They have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Science, or Engineering
In lieu of Bachelor’s degree(s), High School/GED AND 4 year(s) related work experience
Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering and Science Technology
Master’s degree in Science
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and/or Qualified Environmental Professional
Knowledge of environmental regulatory compliance requirements, scientific practices, quality assurance principles, and auditing principles.
Demonstrated technical skills in multimedia environmental (air, water, waste).
Effective communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management.
Ability to develop and implement systems and processes that comply with environmental laws and regulations, corporate policies, and goals (with guidance).
Experience in negotiating with regulators at the state and/or federal level.
Experience in supporting EH&S compliance at multiple facilities/regions within multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
Ability to safely maneuver on uneven terrain.

Responsibilities

Develop and increase knowledge of the organization, procedures and assigned customers, and analyze information, past practices and business objectives to make appropriate recommendations to management/assigned customers.
Serve as single-points-of-contact or coordinators to implement environmental activities that require broad knowledge and experience to provide compliance solutions to EHS issues.
Assist higher level teammates on monitoring the practices of assigned organizational areas (Environmental, Safety, and/or Health) to facilitate compliance with company and/or regulatory policies and requirements to mitigate risks.
Provide basic regulatory-required and internal environmental reports.
Provide basic support for assigned environmental training programs.
Provide basic support with the development and maintenance of procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with environmental and regulations.
Assist the work of others to ensure that Duke Energy work procedures address compliance guidance.
Help track regulatory changes, legislative activities and industry standards.
Research, develop, and/or evaluate programs, policies or activities within the discipline they are assigned.
Solve a range of straightforward problems and develop solutions using standard procedures.
Provide information/consultation to management/assigned customers on existing EHS programs and policies.
Serve as an associate expert for basic technical programs and compliance issues.
Support company’s environmental and safety goals, strategies, programs and processes.
Develop and maintain procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with environmental and safety laws and regulations (with assistance from a Senior or above).
Ensure that Duke Energy work procedures address compliance guidance (with assistance from advanced teammates).
Track basic regulatory changes, basic legislative activities and basic industry standards (with assistance from advanced teammates).
Identify needed changes to facility’s compliance programs (with assistance from advanced teammates).
Work with federal, state and local regulatory authorities to interpret regulations and laws (with appropriate leadership guidance).
Support Duke Energy on various internal/external industry committees and teams.
Develop positive working relationships with peers, customers, employees and management to effectively complete work activities.
