About The Position

Seeking a smart, driven, organized Associate Producer with booking, entertainment, and newsgathering skills. Primary responsibilities include booking entertainment guests for CBS Mornings, CBS Evening News, CBS News Streaming 24/7, and more. This Associate Producer will work closely with our seasoned entertainment booking producer on film and TV roll-outs, as well as chasing daily entertainment news stories. In addition, this AP will occasionally travel on shoots and on breaking news in the West Coast region (wildfires, shootings, missing persons, etc) to book principal voices for the network. Candidates must have strong communication skills, have the ability to maintain relationships, and book high-profile guests. The ideal candidate is able to take initiative by making calls and taking ownership of projects that are assigned. This position requires attention to detail, persistence, organization, judgment, as well as a basic level of TV newsgathering. This person must have the ability to effectively communicate internally with newsroom managers and shows/teams across the news division, as well as externally with guests, publicists, and other contacts. Candidates must be flexible with travel requirements and changing schedules, as the position will, at times, require travel to various locations on short notice where a presence at an event outside of LA is required. This role will report into CBS News Central Booking.

Requirements

  • 2 years of professional experience in a newsroom is required.
  • Must have solid news judgment.
  • Must be an excellent writer with well-developed oral communication skills, especially when working on sensitive stories.
  • Must be able to juggle and prioritize multiple projects with different deadlines: short, medium, and long-term.
  • Must have the ability to manage ongoing relationships with external contacts.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Thrives in high-pressure and time-critical situations.
  • Passion for news, live events, and journalism is required.
  • Must be willing and able to work occasional late/overnight and/or weekend shifts when needed.
  • Candidates must be flexible with travel requirements and changing schedules.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideal candidates are BAs or APs with a background in news or entertainment television.
  • Strong research skills, including working with public and private records databases, such as Lexis Nexis, are preferred.
  • Degree in broadcast journalism or a related field is preferred.
