The editorial team at Cottage Life is looking for a mid-level editor with 5-7 years of experience producing exceptional lifestyle content for print and digital. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently handling substantive edits on features, columns, and front-of-book stories; developing content ideas and editorial packages for print and online; recruiting and assigning stories to writers; and participating in other aspects of the editorial process, including copyediting and proofreading. In addition to handling print stories, they’ll have sharp digital skills, in particular experience in newsletter strategy and production, and thorough knowledge of Mailchimp. They’ll also be a WordPress wizard and understand the importance of SEO, with experience using tools to optimize content. Ideally, we are looking for a cottager or someone with deep cottage experience, but most importantly, the successful candidate will understand what is so special about cottage living in Canada and have big ideas about how to make our magazine feel fresh and relevant to our audience of cottagers and cottagers-to-be. Since we want our stories to offer both good advice and a good read, they’ll also have a sense of fun and a lively imagination. A flexible, can-do attitude is a must, as is the ability to problem solve and find solutions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This new role will report to the Co-Publisher & VP, Content, Cottage Life and is a hybrid position requiring in-office attendance at our head office in Toronto for a minimum of three (3) days per week. The anticipated salary range for this role is $57,000 - $62,000 per year, with final compensation determined by experience and qualifications.
