About The Position

Leidos is seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to work in either their Framingham, MA office or the New Hampshire area. In this role, the candidate will gain experience in NESC expertise, structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design, and interactions with other disciplines such as Substation, Protection & Controls, and Civil Structural. This position is initially a temporary contractor role for approximately 6 months, with the potential to convert to a direct Leidos employee. The successful candidate will develop construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards. Distribution systems can be overhead (OH), underground (UG), or underground residential (URD). Project work may include new business and reliability designs. Work packages will be developed using Bentley Open Utilities Design, Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems. Project work will involve performing engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices. Additional assignments may include preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, developing a Bill of Materials (BOM), estimating costs, and customer advocacy like acquiring easements. Field investigations will require traveling by motor vehicle to various project locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or related field.
  • Six plus (6+) months of prior relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or with a consulting/contracting company performing design engineering for electric utilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.
