About The Position

Leidos is seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to work in either their Framingham, MA office or the New Hampshire area. This role offers the opportunity to gain experience in NESC expertise, structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design, and interactions with other disciplines such as Substation, Protection & Controls, and Civil Structural. The position is initially a temporary contractor role for approximately 6 months, with the potential to convert to a direct Leidos employee. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing construction work packages for electric distribution systems (OH, UG, or URD environments) for new business and reliability projects. This involves using various software systems and construction standards, including Bentley Open Utilities Design, CAD, GIS, and WMS. Engineering calculations will be performed for tasks such as structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices. Additional responsibilities may include preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, developing Bills of Materials (BOM), estimating costs, and customer advocacy like acquiring easements. Field investigations will also be a part of the role, requiring travel by motor vehicle to project locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or related field.
  • Six plus (6+) months of prior relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or with a consulting/contracting company performing design engineering for electric utilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.
  • Reliable transportation is required to ensure consistent and punctual attendance to the office and field sites.

Responsibilities
