About The Position

Atwell, LLC is seeking an Associate Director of Survey who blends technical mastery with leadership vision. This individual will guide the survey practice, shape strategy, and ensure that the work continues to set the standard in quality and service. The role involves developing and executing a strategic plan for the survey group, leveraging established relationships within the surveying, land development, and municipal communities, and setting the tone for quality and consistency across all survey deliverables. The Associate Director will also empower and mentor teams, foster strong client partnerships, collaborate across disciplines, ensure financial performance, champion innovation, and represent the company's values in the field and community.

Requirements

  • Professional Survey License in Delaware (preference for additional state license credentials)
  • Extensive experience in land surveying with progressive leadership responsibilities
  • Strong local relationships and a respected presence in the regional survey and land development community
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage operations, and deliver projects successfully
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Technical expertise in survey principles, standards, and technologies
  • Business acumen with a track record of contributing to growth and profitability

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for our survey group that aligns people, projects, and processes to support growth, technical excellence, and client satisfaction.
  • Leverage established relationships within the surveying, land development, and municipal communities to open doors and strengthen our presence in the region.
  • Set the tone for quality and consistency across all survey deliverables, providing senior-level technical oversight, establishing standards, and ensuring teams are equipped to deliver with accuracy and confidence.
  • Coach project managers, field crews, and office staff to grow their technical and leadership abilities.
  • Represent the survey practice with integrity and professionalism, developing and maintaining client relationships built on trust, responsiveness, and results.
  • Work closely with engineering, planning, and environmental teams to deliver integrated, efficient solutions that meet client goals and uphold our reputation for excellence.
  • Oversee budgets, schedules, invoicing, and profitability metrics for the survey group, driving operational efficiency and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies, tools, and industry practices, encouraging the team to explore advancements in survey methods and software that improve quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Act as the face of our survey practice by attending local professional events, engaging with associations, and strengthening our connections in the markets we serve.
