About The Position

Contributes to the overall success of the Commercial Real Estate Banking team by meeting financial and non-financial metrics and supporting the Director with the management of a portfolio of accounts. This role involves providing customized and creative financial solutions, maintaining credit quality, and monitoring accounts to ensure the Bank’s security position remains within guidelines. The Associate Director champions a customer-focused culture, prepares credit applications and presentations, performs due diligence, and evaluates risk. They also manage account activities, safeguard the Bank’s assets, and stay informed on business and industry conditions. Additionally, the role supports business development by identifying new opportunities, assisting with sales calls and site visits, cross-selling services, and maintaining a pipeline of business. The Associate Director also manages a team of Associates and Credit Solutions Analysts, coaching them to be customer-focused and performance-oriented, while fostering a team-oriented approach and maintaining effective communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Commerce or Economics.
  • Previous commercial credit or real estate lending experience preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to effectively articulate views both within the Bank and externally in the Marketplace.
  • Driver’s license is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Meet team financial objectives including new loan acceptances, asset, revenue and deposit growth, new customer acquisition, and referrals.
  • Achieve non-financial objectives related to customer service, operational effectiveness, and personal development.
  • Provide customized and creative financial solutions to meet client needs and deliver a consistent customer service experience.
  • Maintain the credit quality and profitability of customer relationships.
  • Monitor all accounts to ensure the Bank’s security position is within guidelines, all conditions are met, and timely action is taken on maintenance items.
  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Prepare credit applications, annual reviews, and client communications for income property lending on multi-unit residential and commercial properties, and construction financing.
  • Prepare concise and well-structured credit presentations in accordance with Bank standards.
  • Perform due diligence to identify major issues and risks critical to sound credit decisions and verify material facts.
  • Evaluate risk by considering project strengths, proponent experience, cash flow, and asset cover.
  • Acquire and maintain a sound knowledge of the Bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies, including KYC guidelines, AML program, and Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Remain informed on business conditions and the real estate industry.
  • Make clear and independent recommendations on credit applications or loan actions.
  • Recognize problem accounts early and take appropriate action to protect the Bank’s interest.
  • Minimize customer defects in business and collateral documentation and promptly resolve any identified defects.
  • Track and respond quickly to navigate trends, including re-assessing IG code ratings.
  • Acquire and maintain a sound knowledge of the Bank’s products and services.
  • Actively seek customer feedback on Bank products and service delivery.
  • Ensure high service standards are maintained, including meeting deadlines.
  • Identify new business opportunities with a focus on profitability and risk.
  • Assist the Director & Group Lead by researching, preparing, and conducting sales calls and site visits.
  • Monitor customer needs and cross-sell Bank services.
  • Identify and refer sales opportunities to other departments within the Bank.
  • Maintain an ongoing pipeline of business, including customers and active prospects.
  • Establish and maintain effective external contacts.
  • Manage a team of Associates and Credit Solutions Analysts.
  • Coach the team to be customer-focused and performance-oriented.
  • Demonstrate a team-oriented approach through a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Maintain effective, open communication and an atmosphere conducive to teamwork and success.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Ensure the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations regarding operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.
