About The Position

Lead and direct Tyson Foods' enterprise Process Safety Management (PSM) strategy and continuous improvement efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and improve process safety performance across the organization. This role provides leadership, direction, and support to a team of PSM Area Managers to ensure compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, REGAGAP, and company requirements while advancing a culture of operational excellence and risk reduction. Responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving enterprise-wide PSM programs; providing technical guidance and oversight; monitoring and communicating PSM performance; leading regulatory compliance initiatives; supporting capital and operational risk reduction projects; and developing high-performing team members. In partnership with engineering, operations, maintenance, and facility leadership, this position develops and executes refrigeration and process safety strategies that drive compliance, system reliability, and continuous improvement. Provides technical leadership through a strong working knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, maintenance principles, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices. Collaborates closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, environmental, and safety teams to strengthen process safety culture, improve program effectiveness, and reduce catastrophic risk across the enterprise. In addition to primary PSM responsibilities, this position may lead occupational safety initiatives, strategic projects, compliance efforts, and other environmental, health, and safety responsibilities as business needs dictate.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in a safety, engineering, relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of safety leadership experience, including enterprise or multi-site scope. Process Safety Management experience is required.
  • Experience in large scale, multi-facility, safety programs, process safety, and initiatives.
  • Experience managing teams of safety professionals across multiple locations.
  • Ability to work in office, production, refrigerated, mechanical, and industrial environments.
  • Ability to enter ammonia refrigeration equipment rooms and mechanical spaces while using required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to walk production floors, climb stairs, access elevated work areas, and conduct facility inspections, audits, and process reviews.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel by vehicle and commercial aircraft.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry items up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to comply with all facility safety, security, food safety, and PPE requirements while visiting operational locations.

  • Professional Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar level certification are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage enterprise PSM activities, standards, governance, and performance expectations for covered operations.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for OSHA Process Safety Management, EPA Risk Management Program, and related regulatory compliance activities.
  • In partnership with Safety leadership, develop, implement, and maintain enterprise PSM policies, procedures, standards, and management systems supporting safe operation of ammonia refrigeration and other covered processes.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, such as OSHA and EPA, related to visits, inquiries, etc.
  • Lead governance for Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), including HAZOP, What-If, and other risk assessment methods used to identify and mitigate process hazards.
  • Oversee Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), Mechanical Integrity, Incident Investigation, Emergency Preparedness, Hot Work, contractor safety, and operating procedure requirements tied to covered processes.
  • Responsible for developing and executing refrigeration and process safety strategies in partnership with engineering, operations, and facility leadership. Provides technical guidance and support through a working knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, maintenance principles, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices to drive compliance, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee PSM/RMP audit programs and ensure timely closure of audit findings, corrective actions, incident investigations, and compliance gaps.
  • Monitor and communicate PSM performance through metrics, reporting systems, trend analysis, risk indicators, and executive-level updates.
  • Provide technical guidance to facility leadership regarding refrigeration systems, process hazards, risk reduction opportunities, capital projects, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations to ensure process safety requirements are integrated into new installations, equipment modifications, and facility changes.
  • Partner with Legal, Risk Management, Operations leadership, and other agencies to manage process safety risk and regulatory interactions.
  • Lead development of process safety culture initiatives, technical training, standard work, and capability-building programs for facility and corporate teams.
  • Serve as a matter expert for process safety matters and provide recommendations to leadership regarding significant risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
