Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/innovative-medicine Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for an Associate Director, Oncology AI Imaging Biomarkers to join the J&J Research and Development Data Science and Digital Health team. You will report to the Head of Solid Tumor Oncology, R&D Data Science & Digital Health. You will support the strategic and technical advancement of AI-based biomarkers within J&J’s Oncology R&D portfolio. This role demands deep expertise in digital image analysis, computer vision, and AI/ML (artificial intelligence and machine learning) applications in pathology. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing studies that validate innovative AI-driven biomarker approaches and integrating insights into drug development strategies. The location for this position is either Spring House, PA; Titusville, NJ; Raritan, NJ; New Brunswick, NJ; Cambridge, MA; or San Diego, CA, and may require up to 10% travel. (No remote option.)

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent advanced degree in a quantitative discipline and experience in pathology, computational biology, data science, biomedical engineering or related fields.
  • 5+ years of business experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or diagnostics R&D with direct experience in computational pathology, computer vision, tissue image analysis workflows, and/or AI-enabled diagnostic product development.
  • Proven record developing and implementing Oncology Computer Vision applications in Oncology
  • Experience in a matrixed organization, entrepreneurial skills, and ability to influence and engage strategic and technical partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong skills in analysis, problem-solving, organizational change, project delivery, and managing external vendors.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic product development and evidence-generation requirements (design controls, clinical validation, regulatory pathways, etc.).
  • Experience analyzing or handling healthcare datasets, including imaging, EHR, claims, multi-omics, registry data, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert in digital and computational pathology, computer vision, and AI-driven image analysis workflows, bringing expertise in histopathological features, staining protocols, AI model training & validation, and model interpretability & explainability.
  • Collaborate with internal molecular pathology, biomarker discovery, translational research, computational biology, computer vision, and clinical development teams to integrate digital biomarker insights into JNJ drug development and precision medicine diagnostic strategies.
  • Clearly articulate highly technical methods and results to diverse audiences to drive decision-making
  • Critically evaluate external algorithms, platforms, and emerging technologies (e.g., multimodal data integration, deep learning architectures, etc.)
  • Shape internal vs. external partnering strategy, explore external collaboration opportunities, and ensure successful external partnership management.
