The Division of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS) is committed to ensuring that every undergraduate student at the University of Oregon has the support needed to thrive academically and graduate on time. UESS focuses on student success by providing essential resources and services that promote persistence, enhance academic performance, and guide students along a clear path to timely graduation. Serving the entire undergraduate population, UESS collaborates closely with campus partners to create a supportive and engaging environment that empowers students to reach their full potential. UESS departments and programs include: Office of Academic Advising (OAA), Exploring Advising, Transfer Advising, PathwayOregon, TRIO Student Support Services, Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence (CMAE), the Accessible Education Center (AEC), Center for Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE), Office of Distinguished Scholarships (ODS), McNair Scholars Program, Academic Residential and Research Initiatives (ARRI), First-Year Programs (FYP), Student Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL), Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center (TAEC), and UESS Administration. The Associate Director for the Office of Academic Advising (OAA) provides campus wide leadership for undergraduate student success initiatives that advance persistence, progression, and timely degree completion. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Advising, this role develops, coordinates, and assesses institution wide advising, retention, and degree progression strategies with particular attention to equitable student outcomes and shared advising practice. The position leads the Office of Academic Advising and supervises a multidisciplinary team responsible for advising operations, advising technology, and degree progression data. In collaboration with campus partners, the role oversees mandatory advising initiatives, coordinated enrollment and outreach efforts, degree planning and tracking systems, and the integration of advising, data, and financial supports to reduce structural barriers to student success. In addition, the Associate Director for OAA provides strategic leadership for advisor training and professional development, establishing shared training resources, continuing education, and communication structures that support high quality, equity minded advising across the university. As a key member of divisional leadership, this role represents the office on university committees, leads special projects, and contributes to a culture of collaboration, assessment, and continuous improvement in undergraduate education and student success. This role is designated as fully on-site and does not offer remote or hybrid scheduling options.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three years of experience in a college/university setting in advising, career counseling, and/or teaching.
Experience supervising staff including recruitment, training, and/or performance management.
Two years of leadership experience related to program coordination and/or management.
A broad working knowledge of student development principles.
Understanding of barriers to academic success and persistence for students from diverse and historically underserved backgrounds.
Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with multiple stakeholders to advance shared projects and initiatives.
Ability to support and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion through professional practice.
Ability to translate strategic plans into clear, measurable operational goals and outcomes.
Ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, and execute work independently with minimal direction.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to quickly learn and apply new systems and technologies.
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation skills).
Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituents.
Knowledge of university policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree.
Experience in data analysis or assessment.
Three years of experience in academic advising/counseling at the University of Oregon.
Experience successfully using academic advising technology platforms and degree planning platforms.
Experience developing and/or providing training.
Two years of leadership experience related to program coordination and management of student success initiatives and advancing equitable education outcomes.
