About The Position

The Burlington School District is seeking an Associate Director of Teaching & Learning (Secondary Focus) to join their team. This district-level leadership role assists the Director of Curriculum and the Executive Director of School Leadership in executing the District's academic vision, with a primary focus on middle and high school education (Grades 6–12). The position supports secondary curriculum alignment, builds teacher and coach capacity, strengthens secondary Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and aids in the District's new teacher induction and mentoring programs. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in PreK-12 Education
  • VT Educator Administrator License (Curriculum Director or Principal)
  • Three to five years of successful secondary teaching experience.
  • Experience serving as a principal, assistant principal, instructional coach, or district-level instructional leader.

Responsibilities

  • Support the systematic development, evaluation, and revision of a guaranteed and viable curriculum across all core content areas and grade levels for secondary education.
  • Ensure instructional materials and methodologies are research-based, culturally responsive, and aligned with state and federal standards.
  • Manage the review, adoption, and implementation of secondary (Grades 6–12) curricula across all content areas.
  • Support the development of MTSS at the secondary level, including the implementation of robust teacher teams and assessment systems.
  • Provide direct support to instructional coaches across the District and build their capacity.
  • Support the implementation of a robust coaching model for secondary teachers.
  • Conduct regular non-evaluative walkthroughs with instructional leaders to calibrate instructional expectations and practices.
  • Support the development and effectiveness of district-wide PLCs, including the facilitation and training of PLC leaders at the secondary level.
  • Co-lead the District's onboarding, induction, and mentoring programs for new and early-career educators.
  • Match novice educators with qualified mentors and monitor the effectiveness of mentoring relationships.
  • Design targeted professional learning opportunities to strengthen teacher retention, classroom management, and instructional practice.
  • Support district-wide substitute recruitment and hiring in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Partner with the Elementary Associate Director to coordinate pooled hiring processes for general education teaching positions.
  • Serve on district leadership teams, including the District Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).
  • Collaboratively develop professional learning opportunities in partnership with other directors.
  • Support the annual development of a Professional Learning Plan for secondary staff.
  • Coordinate district-level professional learning activities.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify and address professional learning needs.
  • Lead curriculum and instructional material review processes, including piloting, evaluation, and adoption.
  • Partner with the Elementary Associate Director to establish a seamless PreK–12 curricular progression and vertical articulation plan.
  • Collaborate regularly with the District Data Team to analyze student achievement trends, monitor equity gaps, and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Partner with the Technology Integration Team to support effective assessment and instructional practices.
  • Serve as an active and contributing member of the District Instructional Leadership Team.
  • Report directly to the Director of Curriculum and provide progress updates.
  • Collaborate with instructional coaches and school counseling departments to align academic and student support systems.
  • Support the development and implementation of school-level and district-level Continuous Improvement Plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of School Leadership.
