About The Position

The Associate Director works with the Senior Director to animate Social Outreach programs and initiatives at a Diocesan level. This is accomplished in part by working directly with parishes and other Catholic and community organizations on program development that serves the poor and vulnerable in alignment with Catholic identity and the Bishop’s vision and priority goals for the Diocese. This job description reflects management's assignment of essential job responsibilities; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Requirements

  • Compliance with BCI&I background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children program.
  • Expectation for frequent travel across the diocese; current driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Social Work, or Catholic Educator Certification.
  • Previous experience in community organizing, church ministry, or advocacy.
  • Experience in Social Work or direct outreach/Christian service.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Catholic Social Doctrine, Magisterial documents, and Church structure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of office equipment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • The ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required; ability to read and comprehend instructions, write correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed involved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • The ability to maintain all information highly confidential.

Responsibilities

  • Educate clergy, parish leaders, and the faithful on Catholic Social Teaching (CST) through workshops, resources, and pastoral initiatives.
  • Coordinate or implement programs and initiatives that address identified needs from a Catholic perspective, including Prison Ministry, Pro Life Ministries, Mental Health Ministry, Mobile Outreach Ministry, Diocesan Disaster Response, Rural Life, and other social concerns as prioritized by the Bishop.
  • Serve as a liaison for the Diocese between other Catholic and secular social outreach ministries and programs.
  • Act as a liaison with the Ohio Catholic Conference and the USCCB to promote legislative agendas regarding life, human dignity, and the common good.
  • Maintain working relationships with Curial Departments whose mission is correlative to Social Outreach.
  • Assist the Bishop through research, writing, development of correspondence and responding to calls or requests arising out of the work of Social Outreach in the diocese.
  • Undertake other initiatives and priorities of the Vicariate.
  • Comply with federal, state and local safety laws.
  • Maintain a neat and safe work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
