About The Position

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Associate Director of Finance serves as a strategic thought partner and is responsible for all internal financial operations, financial staff, and related administrative functions. This role collaborates closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, Director of Programs, and key stakeholders to develop and execute a strategic financial plan that supports the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability. The Associate Director of Finance provides strong day-to-day leadership, fosters a collaborative and inclusive work environment, and ensures public and private funds are managed efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with donor and regulatory requirements. This role requires professionalism, approachability, respect for confidentiality, and a commitment to treating all clients, partners, and colleagues with dignity and respect. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of progressive financial and operations management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, audits, cash flow, grants, and financial reporting.
  • Proven ability to translate financial information for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead agency-wide financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Oversee accounting operations, monthly and year-end close, audits, and IRS Form 990.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the CEO, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Ensure strong internal controls, accurate financial reporting, and compliance with financial policies.
  • Manage grants, funding reporting, and financial modeling to support organizational growth.
  • Partner with program leadership to align financial and operational resources with mission delivery.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on compensation, benefits, performance metrics, and workforce planning.
  • Maintain positive relationships with government agencies, funders, vendors, and program partners.
  • Oversee facilities operations, vendor contracts, capital projects, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support IT planning, vendor selection, and cost management in collaboration with the CEO.
  • Ensure organizational policies and procedures support effective and people-centered operations.
