About The Position

Union Settlement seeks a strategic, collaborative, and highly organized Associate Director of Development to serve as a fundraising generalist supporting institutional fundraising, corporate partnerships, and broader development initiatives. Working closely with the Director of Institutional Giving, Chief Development Officer, program leadership, finance staff, communications partners, and other key stakeholders, the Associate Director will help advance a diversified fundraising strategy that supports the organization's mission and growth. The Associate Director will lead the development and management of assigned fundraising projects, including grant proposals, reports, sponsorship opportunities, donor communications, and corporate engagement initiatives. This role requires an exceptional writer, project manager, and relationship builder who can coordinate cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities, and translate programmatic impact into compelling fundraising opportunities. Requirements

• Willingness to travel locally and regionally
• Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree a plus.
• Proven track record of at least 5+ years progressively responsible development experience, with demonstrable results across multiple streams of funding.
• Strong understanding of fundraising principles, strategies, and trends in the non-profit sector.
• Five plus years’ experience with donor databases, Salesforce preferred.
• Experience in establishing and institutionalizing donor database best practices.
• Passion for the organization’s mission and genuine commitment to its values. Familiarity with social service programs and a strong desire to help improve the lives of the residents in East Harlem.
• Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, challenging, constantly changing environment.
• Overall flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• A dedicated work ethic, diligence, and readiness to be a hands-on team member helping foster a collaborative and goal driven environment.
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Suite experience are essential.
• Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Suite. Preference for advanced skills in Excel, data analysis and creating data visualizations.
• Knowledge of East Harlem community strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of assigned institutional fundraising projects, including foundation, corporate, and government grant proposals, reports, and other donor-facing materials.
• Collaborate closely with the Director of Institutional Giving, Chief Development Officer, program leadership, finance staff, and other stakeholders to develop compelling and competitive funding proposals.
• Manage proposal development timelines and coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure deadlines, requirements, and deliverables are met.
• Research and identify prospective institutional funding opportunities that align with organizational priorities.
• Draft compelling narratives, impact statements, budgets, and supporting materials for grant submissions and reports.
• Support stewardship efforts for institutional funders through reports, updates, site visits, and relationship-building activities.
• Maintain grant calendars, submission schedules, and funder records to ensure timely compliance and reporting.
• Assist with government grant administration and management of relevant grant portals.
• Partner with development leadership to design, implement, and advance a comprehensive corporate engagement strategy aligned with organizational fundraising priorities.
• Research, cultivate, and steward corporate partners, sponsors, and prospective business supporters.
• Develop sponsorship proposals, partnership opportunities, and customized engagement plans for corporate funders.
• Coordinate cross-departmental efforts to execute corporate volunteer activities, cause-marketing opportunities, sponsorship activations, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Monitor corporate fundraising trends and recommend strategies to strengthen Union Settlement's corporate fundraising program.
• Support relationship management and ongoing communications with corporate stakeholders and prospects.
• Support individual donor cultivation, stewardship, and engagement activities as needed.
• Assist with fundraising campaigns, annual appeals, donor communications, and special events.
• Maintain accurate donor and funder records within the CRM and related databases.
• Prepare fundraising reports, briefing materials, and development communications for leadership and board engagement.
• Collaborate with communications staff and consultants to ensure consistent fundraising messaging across all channels.
• Contribute to special projects and organization-wide development initiatives as assigned.
