About The Position

The Associate Director of Alumni Relations develops and leads Miami University's strategy for engaging students and recent alumni (0–10 years after graduation). This position is responsible for creating a lifelong engagement pipeline that connects the student experience with meaningful alumni participation, volunteer leadership, career engagement, philanthropy, and lifelong affinity for Miami University. Working collaboratively across University Advancement and campus partners, the Associate Director develops innovative engagement strategies, evaluates outcomes, and ensures programs advance institutional priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in alumni relations, student engagement, volunteer management, higher education, nonprofit leadership, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the university's student-to-alumni engagement strategy, creating intentional opportunities that cultivate lifelong engagement from first-year orientation through the first decade after graduation.
  • Evaluate participation and engagement data to continuously improve transition programming and increase long-term alumni involvement.
  • Design and execute on-campus programming to educate students throughout their time on campus about the benefits of the alumni network.
  • Coordinate or support major milestone events, such as first day photos, senior send-offs, and commencement-related activities.
  • Direct student involvement with major alumni activities, such as Alumni Weekend and Homecoming.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Miami University Student Foundation, developing annual priorities, leadership succession plans, organizational assessment, and strategic initiatives that align with University Advancement goals.
  • Lead and advise the Miami University Student Foundation (MUSF) - our student-led organization that raises funds for student scholarships, bridges connections with Miami University alumni, and celebrates Miami traditions.
  • Attend and support evening meetings and weekend events.
  • Develop a comprehensive engagement strategy for alumni in their first decade after graduation to advance participation, volunteerism, career engagement, and philanthropy.
  • Develop and implement annual engagement strategies and measurable outcomes for student and recent alumni audiences aligned with MUAA and university THRIVE priorities.
  • Evaluate engagement trends and program performance to identify opportunities, inform strategic decisions, and continuously improve the effectiveness and impact of alumni engagement initiatives.
  • Direct efforts to maximize the involvement of recent alumni with Miami University.
  • Lead programming targeted towards recent alumni: this could include programs/tools, webinars, in-person events, conferences, etc.
  • Identify and recruit young alumni volunteers for panels, advisory boards, and regional committees.
  • Coordinate with the Associate Director, Career Networks, to maximize job, networking, and mentorship opportunities for recent alumni.
  • Direct efforts to track and recognize new alumni engagement.
  • Produce targeted webinars and online content.
  • Collaborate with Advancement Communications to develop and execute comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that increase awareness, participation, and affinity among students and recent alumni.
  • Partner with Annual Giving and Development colleagues to integrate engagement and philanthropic strategies that increase participation and strengthen the donor pipeline among students and recent alumni.
  • Develop and manage assigned program budgets, sponsorship revenue, and vendor relationships, including external partnerships and sponsorship opportunities that expand program reach and enhance the long-term sustainability of student and recent alumni engagement initiatives.
  • Represent the Miami University Alumni Association as a strategic partner and ambassador, building relationships with students, alumni, volunteers, faculty, staff, and external organizations to advance engagement goals.
