About The Position

Lutheran Community Services NW (LCSNW) is a non-profit organization serving communities in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. The Compass Housing Alliance division, part of LCSNW, focuses on providing housing, essential services, and emergency shelter. This role, employed by LCSNW but working within the Compass division, will lead philanthropic activities for Compass and other assigned programs or areas. The Associate Director will guide fundraising efforts, donor engagement, and manage assigned Advancement staff to support divisional priorities. This position strengthens the alignment between Compass and LCSNW's advancement practices and collaborates with the broader Advancement team on shared philanthropic goals.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, development, donor relations, or advancement within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Experience leading staff, complex portfolios, or cross-functional initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Communications, Business, or a related field; substantial relevant experience may be considered in place of the degree.
  • Demonstrated success cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors and managing major gift portfolios, corporate partnerships, community fundraising initiatives, and donor engagement activities.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and carrying out fundraising plans, monitoring revenue goals and donor pipelines, and using performance data to evaluate progress.
  • Experience guiding and developing staff while coordinating work across multiple teams, programs, geographic areas, or organizational functions.
  • Strong understanding of donor-centered fundraising practices, ethical standards, donor confidentiality, and accurate constituent data management.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building, solicitation, negotiation, presentation, and stewardship skills.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking skills.
  • Intermediate mastery of business applications and productivity suites.
  • Proficiency using fundraising databases or constituent relationship management systems, such as Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or Bloomerang.
  • Demonstrates resilience, awareness, and self-regulation when navigating challenges, conflict, competing priorities, and barriers.
  • Works effectively with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies.
  • Demonstrates exceptional commitment to serving and advocating for diverse and marginalized populations.
  • Interact with others and perform tasks in person and through the use of technology, with long periods of stationary activity and occasional periods of increased physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, presenting, and participating in events.
  • Travel regularly between worksites and to donors, community, partner, and event locations, including occasional evening or weekend activities.
  • Works in a variety of settings, including LCSNW office locations, partner agency and community-based settings, client home or community settings, outdoor settings in varying weather conditions, and faith-based settings such as churches.
  • Standard LCSNW criminal clearance, including national sex offender.
  • Motor vehicle records, valid driver’s license and auto insurance are required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead advancement activities for assigned division(s), programs, or geographic areas, translating organizational philanthropic strategy into fundraising priorities, plans, and measurable outcomes.
  • Advise the Director of Philanthropic Strategy and operational leaders on fundraising opportunities, donor trends, community relationships, and emerging needs.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual, corporate, foundation, faith-based, and community donors.
  • Oversee assigned advancement portfolios, including annual planning, donor pipelines, revenue forecasting, stewardship activities, performance reporting, and donor data management.
  • Partner with Advancement team members, operational leaders, Communications, and other stakeholders to coordinate fundraising activities and strengthen donor engagement.
  • Direct the work of assigned Advancement staff across donor cultivation, stewardship, events, community engagement, and other fundraising activities.
  • Represent LCSNW with donors, faith communities, businesses, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Supervise employees and/or non-employees, including making employment decisions, setting goals, and managing performance.
