About The Position

In partnership with college leadership, faculty, university administrators, and colleagues across Advancement and Alumni Relations, the Associate Director of Advancement is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding alumni, parents, friends, and other constituents to advance the fundraising priorities of Radford University. The Associate Director manages a portfolio of approximately 100-125 prospects and donors and develops strategies to build relationships, increase engagement, and secure philanthropic support for the university. Working collaboratively with academic and university partners, the Associate Director helps connect donor interests with institutional priorities and funding opportunities. The Associate Director develops and implements annual fundraising strategies designed to advance prospects through the giving cycle, strengthen donor relationships, and increase philanthropic investment. Through personal visits, virtual meetings, events, and strategic outreach, the Associate Director conducts meaningful donor interactions that support fundraising goals and contribute to the long-term growth of the university’s donor pipeline. The Associate Director is responsible for meeting annual fundraising and activity goals, maintaining accurate donor records and prospect strategies in Raiser’s Edge, and participating in collaborative fundraising initiatives across the division. As a member of the Advancement and Alumni Relations team, the Associate Director promotes a culture of collaboration, accountability, and donor-centered engagement while supporting the mission and strategic priorities of the university. Extensive travel, including evening and weekend commitments, is required to develop and maintain relationships with donors and prospective donors.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising, sales, business development, relationship management, higher education, nonprofit development, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree, or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent level of training/experiance to an advanced degree.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a results-oriented environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively and work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in higher education advancement, nonprofit fundraising, healthcare philanthropy, or another complex relationship-based fundraising environment.
  • Demonstrated success securing annual, leadership, or major gifts.
  • Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT or comparable donor management systems.
