The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) is a world-class public high school with a statewide reach, dedicated to empowering academically talented students from across North Carolina. NCSSM offers a Residential high school program in Durham and Morganton for juniors and seniors, an Online supplementary honors program, and virtual daytime Connect courses in partnership with local high schools, all tuition-free. The institution also provides a wide array of summer offerings for rising fifth- through 12th-graders. Specializing in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, while also embracing the fine arts and humanities, NCSSM has been a model for specialized schools globally since its founding in 1980. Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university.
  • 3-5 years experience in higher or secondary education.
  • A valid driver’s license with no serious driving-related convictions.
  • Ability to drive for extended periods in various traffic conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting, identifying, and selecting middle and high school students who are highly talented in STEM from across North Carolina.
  • Serving as the lead communications coordinator, monitoring admissions/enrollment industry trends to make necessary adjustments.
  • Serving as the liaison with the NCSSM Communications department for writing, developing, marketing, promoting, and executing all admissions communications.
  • Writing, reviewing, and analyzing all correspondence to ensure accuracy and appropriate language.
  • Serving as the liaison for the Financial Assistance Program (FAP) on the NCSSM-Morganton campus, including analyzing and assessing credentials/documents for FAP participants.
  • Overseeing the Student Ambassador program on the NCSSM-Morganton campus.
  • Collaborating with the Associate Director for Recruitment (Durham) to utilize data for scheduling and conducting NCSSM admissions presentations in targeted areas.
  • Researching student, alumni, and parent contacts for potential presentations and webinars.
  • Coordinating day, evening, and weekend presentations to promote NCSSM's programs (Online, Residential, Summer Ventures, NCSSM Connect).
  • Ensuring recruitment strategies align with UNC System and NCSSM goals.
  • Executing a high level of customer service when communicating with prospective students, families, and constituents.
  • Collaborating with Office of Admissions leadership and the NCSSM Communications team to design and market materials and content.
  • Bringing awareness of new developments or trends for recruitment materials.
  • Creating and implementing a comprehensive communications plan with specialized messages for targeted prospective applicants.
  • Establishing, reviewing, and updating all Admissions correspondences, templates, calendars, and other communications materials.
  • Tracking inventory of admissions materials.
  • Assisting the Director of Admissions with oversight of the Financial Assistance Program (FAP) as the primary point of contact on the NCSSM-Morganton campus.
  • Guiding families through the FAP application process, reviewing and analyzing financial and medical documents.
  • Maintaining databases to track FAP certification statuses and expirations.
  • Monitoring expenditures and deposits of each Foundation budget.
  • Working with the NCSSM-Durham FAP officer to enhance processes for cross-campus FAP events.
  • Advising, supporting, and providing guidance to prospective families on completing and preparing for a competitive application and enrollment process.
  • Working with families who may have extenuating circumstances and special needs throughout the application process.
  • Assisting non-finalist families with understanding areas of strength and improvement for future college and scholarship opportunities.
  • Serving as a resource to families in the state regarding educational enrichment opportunities.
  • Contributing to the logistics of all NCSSM-Morganton Admissions events.
  • Working with staff members to ensure efficient and effective execution of event logistics (parking, setup, etc.).
  • Assisting students and families with providing accurate information about NCSSM-Morganton events.
  • Collecting, reviewing, and evaluating credentials and documents to determine an applicant's admissibility.
  • Assisting the Director of Admissions in determining residency eligibility for prospective students using the Residency Determination Services (RDS).
  • Reviewing and confirming congressional districts are accurate.
