Under the leadership of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, and their respective medical staffs, this position serves as the senior operational leader responsible for the direction, integrity, and compliance of enterprise medical information management functions. The Medical Information Management Department is responsible for maintaining the availability, accuracy, security, and legal integrity of patient information to support patient care, teaching, research, and administrative needs across the health system. This role oversees enterprise functions including the legal medical record, Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI), document imaging, transcription management, medical record completion, release of information, storage and retrieval, vital statistics, RAC compliance, and disaster preparedness. This position serves as the custodian of the enterprise legal medical record and acts as a subject matter expert for regulatory, accreditation, HIPAA privacy, and release-of-information standards across all inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community connect affiliates. The Director of Health Information Management Operations provides administrative and operational leadership for enterprise health information management services, ensuring the integrity, accessibility, and compliance of the electronic health record (EHR) and legal medical record across the health system. This role directs EMPI operations to prevent and resolve duplicate medical record numbers, oversees transcription services and vendors to ensure timely and accurate documentation within the EHR, and ensures synchronization between hospital and ancillary information systems. The director monitors productivity, performance metrics, and operational efficiency while implementing process improvements to support quality, compliance, and strategic objectives. The position collaborates extensively with Registration, Patient Accounting/Financial Services, Centralized Scheduling, OSU Physicians, physician offices, Health Plan partners, clinical leadership, and administrative stakeholders. The director also serves in a consultative role to academic and research partners regarding medical record access, release, and compliance requirements.
